Benefits of Membership
Since 1982, the MLA Research Section has served to advance library research within MLA and throughout the health communities within which libraries operate. The Research Section provides members with a wide array of benefits including:
- Membership Directory -- join a network of friendly and like-minded colleagues interested in building research skills and applying library research and assessment to day-to-day library decisions and problems.
- Research Section Discussion List - connect with your peers and other research mentors and experts for news, trends, ideas, and advice.
- Hypothesis - read our online newsletter for interesting articles and the latest new and information about library research -- publish results of your investigations in Hypothesis.
- Research Section Web site -- discover a wealth of research information and tools availabe to help you become an effective researcher.
- Continuing education opportunities -- participate in MLA CE classes and symposia and a wide array of professional activities tailored for the librarian researcher.
- Leadership opportunities -- take an active role in one of many committees or programs -- add section activities to your resume -- earn points of professional activities to renew and advance your membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP).
- Collaborate with research groups in chapters and other associations.
- Share your ideas and speak your voice through surveys, feedback, and advocacy programs.

If you want to join the Research Section, just enter your MLA ID#, name, payment information, and check the box next to the Research Seaction in the 'Join an MLA Section' area of the Membership Application Form. Print the form and fax or mail it to MLA.
Volunteer Application Form [link to form - under development]
Committees and YOUR input are vital to the successful functioning of the Research Section. Each year there are vacancies on various Research Section committees and task forces that need to be filled. In order to be considered for any committee or taskforce, you need to fill out the Volunteer Application Form and you must be a Research Section member. Please download the form and mail or fax it to the current Research Section Chair. Contact information for Chair is available at http://research.mlanet.org/exec.html. Committee descriptions and information about what each group does and what your responsibilities would be are available at http://research.mlanet.org/committee-descriptions.html. You are welcome to fill out a volunteer form any time of the year, but please be aware that the bulk of the appointments take place in April/May.
